Internal communications is all about delivering a message to the employees within an organisation. Whether it’s to teach, make an announcement, or show off a presentation, there’s one thing that boosts the engagement of that message across the board… video.
Five on a Bike have worked with internal comms video production for many years, across many companies; small and large. Generally, we’ve found that internal communications managers agree that video is one of the most powerful tools in their field, however budget challenges and logistics often get in the way.
It is often quite difficult to build a value case for internal comms video production. Difficulties in obtaining the budget may arise, as there may not be a clear straight line between the product and its outcome. Creating a good pitch for the return on investment from an internal comms video may be tough, in addition to issues with logistics, such as how easily a video may be shared across the internal network.
Use video in your induction process to motivate your new employees from the very beginning. Induction videos are tailor-made to fit the culture and processes of your business, and can be made up of talking heads filming or motion graphics animation.
This is where you can express a warm welcome, provide critical information, and give a feel of what it’s like to work at your company.
Announcements and Updates
The fastest and most engaging way to communicate important announcements and updates is through video. Wordy newsletters are often left unread and spoken announcements can be time-consuming and may only reach a few people.
With video, you can convey your announcements and updates in a way that is universal, timeless, and can reach an unlimited audience.
Health and Safety
Turn a somewhat ‘boring’ topic into a piece of engaging, informative content by communicating the information over video.
Motion graphics animation lends itself really well to this type of video

Video Tutorials and Training
Training and development is a critical part of any job role. Upskill your employees using video tutorials and training videos to maximise learning potential and convey information concisely and informatively.
Capture the most important points of your presentation on film to communicate at a broad scale with your company’s employees, even those who couldn’t attend the presentation.
When thinking about CSR, Employee Rewards, and similar communications, encouraging your employees to generate their own content is a great way to covey a genuine message and to keep budget impacts low.
This is something that the team at Five on a Bike are experienced in, working with clients to facilitate this happening. We manage the whole process so you don’t have to control all the files, or schedule any posting. We can create engaging videos out of user-generated video content at a very low cost.

There are some really exciting opportunities to do with AI and internal comms, and it’s definitely something we should be embracing. In terms of enriching existing video content, AI can be used to create more a more bespoke product out of content that has been filmed before.
If you’re a big corporation, it is often difficult to create content that speaks closely to all of your employees. Your tech people, sales people, finance people, and compliance people all want different content, and it’s not practical or time-effective to make different content for each group.
Imagine a system where any content is available to any employee, triggered by keywords, titles, colours, or emotions… e.g:
“can I see the CEO talking about financial results from last quarter?”
“can I see a training video on this compliance issue?”
“can I see all the footage we have of happy employees?”
This is a system which we can see coming over the horizon. Get in touch with York to find out how to be first on the list with the latest AI technology and updates.
