Case Study: Inchcape
Working with Inchcape Motor Retailer on Internal Communications Video Production
It all started with a phone call from Angie Inchcape Internal Communications Manager asking if we were able to provide a camera operator for a small piece of filming with the CEO. We obliged and York from the Five on a Bike team headed over to a Mercedes garage in Oxford. We filmed for a few minutes with the CEO where he used an autocue and delivered a congratulation message to the whole Inchcape team for winning number one best place to work that year.
This was the start of a wonderful relationship between the internal communications team at Inchcape and Five on a Bike. We spend the next 24 months create a wide range of content for the company including;
Recruitment films for mechanics. The company was struggling to recruit mechanics across the 108 sites they had at the time, so they were losing out on a fair amount of revenue. We travel across the UK making content with the mechanics, things like day in the life videos, stories about the success they had had in there career with the company. These videos were used in the recruitment process and were so successful the videos were mentioned in the quarterly share report for helping to increase revenue.
CSR video content – Every year the company would run some kind of charitable drive as part of its corporate social responsibility requirements. Video content would be made to help engage team members with the drive. One of the projects involved a themed teddy bear being sent around all the sites, team members would send photos and video clips back to the internal comms team, we would then sitch these all together to give updates. We then finished the project with a live stream of the bear arriving at it final destination with great fanfare. It was very popular around the company and the video content great really help to boost engagement with the projects

Monthly Updates Videos – Initially quarterly, then once they proved popular we move to monthly. The Five on a Bike team created video content with updates from the senior management team to inform the broader organization about progress, incentives and general news. These were emailed out to team members, played at events and in break room areas to reach as many of the 10,000+ team members as possible.
Specific Update Videos – Across the organization many departments need to deliver complex information about compliance, systems, process and procedures. We discovered that making video content about these was a very useful exercise. These videos were a range of animation video production to live streaming to pieces to camera with graphics overlaid. We created content about anything and everything, from finance to compliance to how to use the staff benefit platform.
Benefits platform – The staff benefits platform was underused. A fun animated video explaining to team members how and why to use the platform was created. It focused on the use of bikes are part of the team members benefits package, which had a huge net benefit to the company.
Induction Videos – It was identified that staff turnover was highest in the early weeks and months of people starting, so it was decided that an updated induction programme was required. A large chunk of this was video content. We travelled all over the UK and created a fun engaging video. It was a script about what its like to work at the company, but delivered line by line by people from all over the UK. About 50 people were filmed for the video and it was cut together with motion graphics and other information to create a video to really start people off at the company on the right foot. Alongside this a range of training videos were made.

Training Videos – A key part of making sure everyone was able to do their job to the best of there ability, we create a range of videos from technical demonstrations that were filmed professionally to video content recorded by team members and sent to us for editing. We used animation, motion graphics and professional filming and editing across a range of content to increase productivity.
Investor relations videos – As a FTSE company Inchcape were often required to engage directly with share holders, investor relation videos were key in delivering complex messages or to deliver some tone and nuance to a particular data set.
Sadly as a lot of the work we created was internal facing we are unable to show many examples publicly. However here is a testimonial video from our client Angie.
